Charles Dairay


Charles Dairay, born in 1974 in Saint Saulve, France, began his musical education at the age of six and started studying the carillon with Jacques Lannoy at the French Carillon School in Douai at the age of ten. He received his diploma as master carillonneur in 1996 and a diploma with highest honours from the Royal Carillon School Jef Denyn in Mechelen, Belgium in 2004. Mr. Dairay teaches the carillon in Le Quesnoy and Orchies, where he is the city carillonneur. He is also the assistent carillonneur of Saint-Amand-les-Eaux  and in Belgium the city carillonneur in Deinze and co-carillonneur in Mons. He won prizes at carillon competitions in Douai, France in 1994, Springfield, USA in 2000, Hamburg in 2001, the prestigious Queen Fabiola Competition in Mecheln, Belgium in 2003, and in Venlo, the Netherlands in 2004. He played on the French travelling carillon together with the Berlin carillonneur Jeffrey Bossin at the Berlin Millenium Festival 1999 - 2000. He performs regularly at carillon festivals in Europe and the USA and has recorded several CDs including one of him and his students playing the carillon of Deinze in 2010.
