Anthony
Skilbeck, born in Coventry in
1947, is a composer, teacher, pianist, organist, and choir conductor.
He
studied at the Royal School of Church Music and received degrees from
the Royal
College of Music in London, London University Institute of Education,
and the. Skilbeck studied at the University of Sheffield obtaining a
Master of
Music for organ performance and original composition in 1990 and a Ph.
D. for
composition in 2000. During this period Skilbeck also studied the organ
with
Nicolas Kynaston in London. Skilbeck has composed over 100 works
including ones
for piano, harpsichord, organ, and chorus, one for symphony orchestra
and many
for various chamber and percussion ensembles. In 1994 Skilbeck began
writing
music for the carillon in Berlin-Tiergarten. His first piece, Intercalations,
was
premiered
during
a concert for Christo
and Jeanne Claude’s Wrapped Reichstag in 1995. Since then he
has become one of the most prolific
composers of carillon music and has written 35 more carillon pieces.
