Katarzyna Szwed, born in 1980 in Cracow, Poland, is currently living as a free lance-composer and
music teacher in the Netherlands. In 2003 she took part in the Klaus
Huber master class for composers at Trebnitz Palace in Germany
and received a Socrates Erasmus scholarship to study
composition at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague,
Netherlands. She was awarded an M.A. in composition and music
theory at the Cracow Music Academy in 2006. During the
following two years she attended the Next Generation workshop
of the Donaueschingen Musik Tage in 2007, the 11 Premières
workshop of the Nieuw Ensemble in Amsterdam 2007-2008, the
Watch That Sound workshop of the Rotterdam Film Festival
2008-2009, the 8x7 workshop of the Asko Schoenberg Ensemble in
Amsterdam 2008-2009 and the Four Quadrants workshop in
Rotterdam in 2009. In 2009 she also received an M.A. in
composition from the Rotterdam Conservatory and in 2014 she
obtained a Ph.D in composition from the University of
Birmingham, England. Her works have been performed at several
music festivals such as the Warsaw Autumn Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Musik
Festival, Red Ear Festival in Rotterdam, and the ManiFeste of
IRCAM, Paris. Szwed works together with both individual
musicians and ensembles, also combining music with modern
dance, visual art or (live) electronics. In 2016 she began
collaborating with the award-winning Song of The Goat Theatre.
