Tours of the Carillon Tower After the Concerts

Regular tours of the carillon tower are offered at the end of the concerts. No advance registration is necessary, just wait at the bottom of the tower for the carillonneur and remember that coming down takes a bit of time! Ascend the tower with him - there is no elevator, you must climb about 130 steps for the first section and then later another 60 but the stairway is modern and easy to ascend and you will be rewarded with a unique view of Berlin and its government buildings! The carillonneur, Jeffrey Bossin, guides you through the tower, answers your questions, explains the special features of the instrument and recounts the interesting history of the carillon in Berlin from its beginning under the first King of Prussia to the reunification of Germany. He demonstrates the instrument's fascinating playing technique and plays the carillon for you on the big keyboard! Price: adults 8 euros, children (under 12) 4 euros, tours require at least four people.

Due to the pandemic no tours will be offered following the regular concerts at this time.

Group tours are available daily at 11:15 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. The bell chamber is large and well ventilated, so there is no danger of becoming infected there. However, the playing cabin is small and it isn't possible to keep apart from other people in it, there will be a lot of talking and one spends 20 to 30 minutes there. Most of the time the big windows will be kept open, in order to ventilate the playing cabin and the carillonneur wears a special mask which effectively prevents him from infecting other people. So if those taking part on the tour all know each other personally and are willing to accept the small risk of infecting each other during the tour, then they can book a private tour.
