Eddy
Marien, born in
1962 in
Duffel, Belgium, received a degree in piano from the
conservatory of
Mechelen,
Belgium in 1980 and a Masters of Music from the Lemmens
Institute in
Louvain in
1997. He graduated from the Royal Carillon School Jef Denyn in
1985
where he
has been teaching the carillon since 1989. He is the city
carillonneur
of
Halle, Louvain, Mechelen, and Meise. He initiated the
installation of
the new
carillon in Meise and worked as advisor to the project. He gives
regular
recitals and lectures in Europe, North America, Australia, and
New
Zealand and
has recorded several CDs. He won the first prize at the
international
carillon
competitions of Nijmegen in 1989 and Berlin in 1991 and serves
regularly on the
juries of carillon competitions and exams. He has given master
classes
at Yale
University, USA, the National Palace of Mafra, Portugal, and the
Scandinavian
Carillon School in Lřgum Kloster, Denmark. He specializes in the
performance of
music for carillon and various other instruments such as guitar
and
vibraphone
and together with Thomas Lee has formed the carillon duo
"Campana Nova" which plays
four-hands music
for carillon.
